Yes, a broken Lenovo tablet screen can be replaced, and on many popular models the part is inexpensive: our Lenovo touch screen digitisers start at £8.36 and full screen assemblies at £20.00 (checked 15 October 2026). What you need depends on your model. Older Lenovo Tab 3 and Tab 4 models use a separate touch glass (digitiser), so if the picture is fine and only the glass is cracked, you replace the glass. Lenovo Tab M7 and M8 models are sold as a full screen and digitiser assembly, replaced as one unit. The most important step is finding your exact model code, such as TB-X304F or TB-8505F, because similar-looking Lenovo tablets use different parts. This guide covers diagnosis, parts, cost and the repair process.
Step 1: find your exact Lenovo tablet model
Lenovo sells many tablets with similar names, and parts are specific to each model code. To find yours:
- Check the back of the tablet or the label under the kickstand or near the camera. Look for a code such as TB-X304F, TB-8505F or TB-7305F.
- In Settings, About tablet, the model name and number are listed if the screen still works.
- On the box or receipt, the model code is usually printed.
Lenovo's warranty lookup can also confirm your model and whether it is still covered by Lenovo's warranty, in which case contacting Lenovo first may be worthwhile.
Step 2: glass, LCD or both?
| What you see | Likely damaged part |
|---|---|
| Cracked glass, picture clear, touch works or partly works | Touch glass (digitiser) |
| Glass intact, but black patches, lines or ink-like spreading | LCD display |
| Cracked glass and damaged picture | Both: replace the full assembly, or both parts |
| Screen dark, but the tablet makes sounds or vibrates | LCD, backlight or its connector |
| Touch registering on its own, no visible damage | Digitiser fault, charger interference, or software |
For a deeper look at the difference, see our guide to whether a cracked screen needs the glass, digitiser or full replacement.
Which Lenovo models use separate glass, and which use a full assembly?
This is based on how our parts are supplied for each model:
- Touch glass (digitiser) only: Lenovo Tab 3 10.1 (TB3-X70), Lenovo Tab3 7 Essential (Tab3-710F) and Lenovo Tab 4 10 (TB-X304 / TB-X304F). On these, the touch glass and the LCD are separate parts, so you can replace the glass alone if the LCD is undamaged.
- Screen and digitiser assembly: Lenovo Tab M7 (TB-7305F / TB-7305I / TB-7305X), Lenovo Tab M8 (TB-8505F / TB-8505X / TB-8505) and Lenovo Tab M8 4th Gen (TB300FU / TB300XU). These are supplied as a complete display and touch unit.
If your model is not listed here, check our guide on how to identify the correct replacement screen and contact us with the model code.

How much does it cost to replace a Lenovo tablet screen?
For a DIY repair, the cost is the part plus any tools and adhesive you do not already have. From our price list, that means from £8.36 for a Tab 3 10.1 touch glass up to £25.00 for a Tab M7 full assembly. If a repair shop fits the part, labour is added; ask for a quote before agreeing.
Factors that change the cost:
- Glass only vs full assembly. Glass is cheaper but takes longer to fit because the old adhesive and broken glass must be cleaned off carefully.
- Whether the LCD is also damaged. On glass-only models, a damaged LCD means buying a second part.
- Additional damage, such as a bent frame or damaged charging port.
Our screen replacement cost guide explains how to compare repair quotes.
Tools you need
- Plastic opening picks and a plastic spudger.
- Suction cup.
- Heat source (heat pad or hairdryer on a warm setting) to soften adhesive.
- Small Phillips screwdriver.
- Double-sided adhesive tape suitable for screens.
- Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) to clean old adhesive.
- Packing tape to hold cracked glass together.
- Safety glasses and gloves.
Our repair tools collection includes opening tools and accessories.
How to replace a Lenovo tablet touch glass (Tab 3 and Tab 4)
Exact steps vary by model. iFixit hosts guides for a range of Lenovo tablets. The general process:
- Back up if possible and power off.
- Cover the cracked glass with packing tape to hold shards together.
- Heat the edges of the glass to soften the adhesive.
- Start at an intact corner with a suction cup or a pick, then work round with picks. Keep picks shallow so you do not damage the LCD underneath.
- Locate the digitiser cable before lifting the glass fully. On many models the glass connects to the board through a ribbon cable at one edge.
- Open the back or frame if needed to reach the connector, and disconnect the battery first if it is accessible.
- Disconnect the digitiser cable and remove the old glass.
- Clean the frame thoroughly. Remove every shard and all old adhesive with alcohol. Do not let alcohol run onto the LCD.
- Apply new adhesive tape around the frame.
- Connect the new digitiser, reconnect the battery and test touch before sticking the glass down.
- Remove the protective film from the inside of the new glass, check for dust on the LCD, then press the glass into place evenly.
How to replace a full screen assembly (Tab M7 and M8)
- Power off.
- Heat and open the screen or back cover, depending on model.
- Disconnect the battery first.
- Disconnect the display cable and remove the old assembly.
- Clean the frame and fit new adhesive.
- Connect the new assembly and the battery, and test display and touch.
- Seal the tablet by pressing the screen evenly into place.
A full assembly is often easier for a first-time repairer, because you do not need to separate glass from a working LCD.
Working with a shattered screen safely
Tablet glass often breaks into a spider web of small pieces, especially after a corner drop. Removing it is the slowest and most hazardous part of the job.
- Wear safety glasses for the whole glass removal. Small fragments can flick up as you lever.
- Tape first, then heat. Clear packing tape over the whole screen keeps fragments attached to the tape rather than the bench.
- Work in short sections. Heat one edge, lift a few centimetres, then move on, rather than forcing the whole sheet.
- Use plastic cards, not metal blades, to slice through adhesive. Metal tools scratch the LCD and can cut fingers.
- Vacuum the workspace afterwards and wipe the frame with a lint-free cloth so no tiny shards end up under the new glass.
- Dispose of broken glass wrapped in paper or tape, not loose in a bin bag.
Dust: the hidden enemy on glass-only repairs
When you replace touch glass over an existing LCD, any dust trapped between the two layers shows as a bright speck on every white screen. Work in a clean, still room, wipe the LCD with a microfibre cloth just before fitting, and use a dust-removal sticker or a puff of air for any last specks. Peel the protective film from the new glass at the last moment.
Test checklist after the repair
- Touch works across the whole surface: draw slowly to every edge in a drawing app.
- No dead pixels, lines or bright patches on a plain white image.
- No dust trapped under the glass.
- Auto-rotate, cameras, speakers and buttons work.
- The tablet charges normally and holds charge overnight in standby.
- Leave the tablet face down on a soft cloth for a few hours so the new adhesive bonds fully before regular use.
Other Lenovo screen problems: black and white or blue screen
Not every screen problem is physical damage.
Lenovo tablet screen turned black and white
This is usually a setting, not a fault. Check:
- Bedtime mode or Digital Wellbeing, which can switch the screen to greyscale at night.
- Accessibility settings such as colour correction or greyscale.
- Battery saver modes on some versions of Android, which can reduce colour.
- Developer options, where "simulate colour space" can be set to monochromacy.
Lenovo tablet blue screen or blue tint
- A blue colour cast can come from display colour or "eye comfort" settings; check Display settings first.
- A solid blue screen that appears on start-up may be a software or boot problem; a factory reset through recovery mode may help, but it erases your data.
- A blue tint that stays the same in all settings, or that appeared after a drop, may indicate a failing LCD and needs a screen replacement.
Repair or replace the tablet?
Low-cost parts make repair attractive, but consider the tablet's age. Older models such as the Tab 3 and Tab 4 no longer receive Android updates, so some apps may stop supporting them. A screen repair still makes sense for a children's tablet, a video player or a dedicated device such as a kitchen recipe screen. If the battery also lasts only a short time, factor in a battery replacement or consider a newer tablet. When you do retire an old tablet, recycle it as electrical waste; your council's options are listed through GOV.UK's recycling collections finder.
Protecting the new screen
Fit a screen protector straight after the repair; see our screen protector collection. For children, a thick foam or rubber case with raised corners protects against most drops, which nearly always land on a corner first.
Common mistakes
- Ordering by tablet name instead of model code.
- Buying touch glass when the LCD is also damaged.
- Pushing picks too deep and scratching or cracking the LCD.
- Leaving glass shards or adhesive on the frame, which stops the new glass sitting flat.
- Forgetting the protective film on the inside of the new glass.
- Not testing before sealing.
