A Samsung Galaxy A50 battery replacement costs £7.37 for the 4,000mAh battery in our store (checked 15 October 2026), plus adhesive and tools if you do it yourself, or labour if a repair shop fits it. The repair involves warming and lifting the glued plastic back cover, removing a few screws and a plastic cover over the board, disconnecting the battery, and easing the old battery out of its adhesive before fitting the new one. Because the A50's back is plastic rather than glass, it is one of the more forgiving Samsung battery repairs for a careful beginner. The key qualification is that the battery is firmly glued, so patience and plastic tools are essential to avoid bending it. This guide covers cost, diagnosis, the step-by-step repair and aftercare.

How much does a Galaxy A50 battery replacement cost?
| Option | What you pay for |
|---|---|
| DIY | Battery (£7.37 in our store), battery adhesive strips, back cover adhesive and any tools you need |
| Independent repair shop | The battery plus the shop's labour charge; ask for a quote that includes adhesive and testing |
| Samsung repair service | Samsung's own pricing; check its UK repair service for current options on older models |
Because the part is inexpensive, the main difference between options is labour. If you already own opening tools, DIY is the cheapest route by far.

How to check Samsung A50 battery health
- Samsung Members app: open Samsung Members, go to Support, then Phone diagnostics, and run the Battery status test. It reports the battery condition, usually as Good, Normal or Weak.
- Battery usage: in Settings, Device care (or Battery and device care), Battery, check whether drain is unusually fast, especially when the phone is idle.
- Real-world test: charge to 100% and use the phone normally. If it no longer lasts the day it used to, the battery has worn.
- Physical check: if the back cover is bulging or the screen is lifting, the battery may be swollen.
Signs the A50 needs a new battery
- It no longer lasts a day with your normal use.
- It shuts down at 15% to 30%.
- The percentage drops suddenly.
- It gets warm during light use or charging.
- Samsung Members reports a weak battery.
- The back cover is bulging: stop charging and replace the battery promptly.
Battery or something else?
Before opening the phone, rule out the common alternatives:
- An app draining power: check Battery usage and restrict or remove the culprit.
- Charging port problems: if charging is slow or only works at an angle, lint in the USB-C port is often the cause. Clean it gently with a wooden toothpick and try another cable.
- Weak signal areas: searching for signal drains the battery faster.
- Recent update: give the phone a couple of days to settle after a major update.
Tools you need
- Heat pad, hairdryer or heat gun on a low setting.
- Suction cup and plastic opening picks.
- Small Phillips screwdriver.
- Plastic spudger and plastic cards.
- Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and a dropper.
- Battery adhesive strips and back cover adhesive.
- Safety glasses.

How to replace the Samsung A50 battery: step by step
- Discharge the battery below 25% to reduce fire risk if it is accidentally damaged.
- Power off and remove the SIM tray.
- Warm the back cover evenly around the edges for a few minutes. Plastic backs can warp if overheated, so use moderate heat and keep it moving.
- Open the back. Place a suction cup near the bottom edge, pull gently and slide a pick into the gap. Work round all four sides with picks, reheating as needed.
- Lift the back cover away. The A50 uses an in-display fingerprint sensor, so there is no fingerprint cable attached to the back.
- Remove the screws holding the plastic midframe covers over the top of the board and the bottom section. Keep the screws in order.
- Lift off the covers carefully; antenna contacts and the wireless or NFC antenna may be attached to them.
- Disconnect the battery connector using a plastic spudger before anything else.
- Release the battery adhesive. Apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery and wait a minute. Slide a plastic card under the battery from the side and work slowly, adding alcohol as needed.
- Do not bend or puncture the battery. If it begins to bend, stop and apply more alcohol. Never use metal tools.
- Clean the battery recess of old adhesive and let any alcohol evaporate completely.
- Fit the new battery with new adhesive strips, press it into place, and connect it.
- Test before closing: power on and check it boots and charges.
- Refit the covers and screws.
- Clean the frame and back cover of old adhesive, apply new adhesive, and press the back into place. Clamp lightly while it bonds.
Tips for a clean result
- Work on a clean, well-lit surface with a soft mat, so the plastic back and screen are not scratched while the phone lies face down.
- Photograph each stage on another phone before removing screws or covers. It makes reassembly much easier.
- Use a screw map: draw the phone's outline on paper and place each screw where it came from.
- Keep alcohol away from the screen edge. Use only a few drops at a time under the battery so it does not run onto the display connector or seep under the screen.
- Check the antenna contacts on the plastic covers are clean and not bent before refitting, or signal may suffer.
- Press the back cover firmly along every edge after fitting new adhesive, then leave the phone under a light weight, such as a couple of books on a cloth, for an hour.
How long does the repair take?
For a first attempt, allow around an hour, plus time for the back cover adhesive to bond. Most of the time goes on lifting the back without warping it and on easing the battery out slowly. A repair shop that does these regularly will usually be much quicker, and many offer same-day service for common Samsung models.
Understanding battery wear
Every lithium-ion battery loses capacity as it goes through charge cycles, and heat speeds that up. After several years of daily charging, it is normal for an A50 battery to hold noticeably less charge than when new. A replacement restores the phone's battery life close to how it was when new, provided the rest of the phone is healthy. If battery life is still poor after a new battery, look for software causes such as a misbehaving app.
After fitting: calibrate and test
- Charge to 100% with the phone switched on.
- Use it normally down to about 10%, then charge to full again so the battery reading settles.
- Run the Samsung Members battery test.
- Check the cameras, flash, speakers and signal after refitting the covers.
- Make sure the back cover sits flat with no gaps.
How to make your A50 battery last longer
- Turn on battery protection if your software version offers it; it limits charging to reduce wear.
- Use dark mode. The A50's Super AMOLED screen uses less power with dark backgrounds.
- Lower brightness or use adaptive brightness.
- Turn off Always On Display if you do not need it.
- Put unused apps to sleep in Battery settings.
- Avoid heat, such as charging under a pillow.
- Avoid draining to 0% regularly.
Swollen battery: safety first
If your A50's back cover is bulging, stop charging, keep the phone away from heat and flammable materials, and do not press on it. Replace the battery promptly; if you are not confident, ask a repair shop. Never put old batteries in household waste. Take them to a battery collection point, as GOV.UK explains in its guidance on waste batteries. Tape over the terminals first.
Is it worth replacing the battery in a Galaxy A50?
The Galaxy A50 launched in 2019 and no longer receives Samsung software updates. With a battery costing £7.37 in our store, a replacement is still good value if the phone works well and suits your needs, for example as a backup phone, a child's phone, or a phone for calls, messaging and music. If you rely on banking apps that may stop supporting older Android versions, consider whether a newer phone is a better long-term investment.
Doing other repairs at the same time
With the back off, you can also replace a cracked back cover or a worn charging port flex. If the screen is cracked, note that A50 screen replacement is a separate and more involved job, as the screen is glued to the front. Search terms such as "replacement screen for Samsung A50" and "A50 camera lens replacement" are common, and those parts are listed in our A50 parts collection. Our Galaxy A series battery replacement guide covers other A-series models, and our Galaxy S21 Ultra battery guide shows the process on a glass-backed Samsung.
Moving data before the repair
A battery replacement does not normally erase anything, but any repair carries a small risk. Back up first: use Samsung Cloud or Google One for contacts, photos and settings, and back up WhatsApp chats to Google Drive from within WhatsApp. If the phone no longer powers on long enough to back up, keep it on charge while you copy photos to a computer with a USB cable.
DIY or repair shop?
The A50 is a sensible first battery repair: the plastic back is less likely to crack than glass, and there is no fingerprint cable on the back to tear. Choose a repair shop if the battery is swollen, the phone has liquid damage, or you need it back the same day.
Common mistakes
- Buying an A50s battery for an A50, or the reverse.
- Overheating the plastic back, which can warp it.
- Prying the battery with metal tools or bending it.
- Not disconnecting the battery first.
- Reusing old adhesive on the back cover.
- Closing the phone before testing.
